SAN MATEO GLASS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- 01Yes for any new window or doors purchased from us we can provide a matching set of screens.
- 02A custom glass tabletop protects your furniture from scratches, spills, and everyday wear while enhancing its appearance. It's cut to your exact dimensions, ensuring a perfect fit for dining tables, desks, coffee tables, and other surfaces.
- 03Tempered glass is heat-treated to be 4-5x stronger than standard glass and breaks into small, dull granules. Laminated glass, on the other hand, consists of two panes bonded by a plastic interlayer; if it breaks, the glass stays intact. We recommend laminated glass (like Riot Glass) for maximum security against forced entry.
- 04After measuring your window, it usually takes 3 to 7 business days to fabricate a custom insulated glass unit (IGU). Installation by our expert glaziers typically takes less than an hour per window.
- 05Absolutely. We specialize in large-format, wall-to-wall custom mirrors for home gyms, yoga studios, and Pilates spaces. We use professional-grade mirror mastic and safety clips to ensure a secure, distortion-free installation.
- 06Yes, we specialize in installing Riot Glass for enhanced storefront security. This shatterproof, invisible shield protects your business from smash-and-grab burglaries without the need for bars or shutters.
- 07Condensation inside double-pane windows indicates a seal failure. When the hermetic seal of an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) breaks, moisture enters the gap, causing a "foggy" appearance. We can usually replace just the glass unit without replacing the entire window frame.
- 08Low-E (Low Emissivity) glass has a microscopic coating that reflects infrared heat. This keeps your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, which is essential for energy efficiency and reducing utility bills in the San Mateo climate.
- 09If the window frame is in good condition, glass-only replacement is significantly cheaper and faster than a full-frame replacement. You save on material costs and labor while still achieving the benefits of new glass (such as better insulation). However, if the frame is rotted, warped, or leaking air, a full replacement is a better long-term investment.
- 10Yes. When installed by a professional like San Mateo Glass, we use tempered or laminated safety glass that is incredibly impact-resistant. There are no large gaps or horizontal "ladder-effect" rails, making them safer for children and pets than traditional railings.
- 11YES! Our company has always maintained a 5 star rating on Better Business Bureau - see here for detailed.
- 12YES! We are a proud member of San Mateo Country Chamber of Commerce and we participate and sponsor local events.
- 13Many projects. We don't work on autos. We aren't experts in stained glass. Repairing framed mirrors or medicine cabinets isn't our specialty. We refer some skylight jobs and custom work such as fireplace screens. When we do take on a job, we really want to ensure we are well suited to deliver a high-quality installation
